In 1879, William Henry Jackson established the firm "Jackson Photographic Co." in Denver, Colorado. In 1881, it became Jackson & Rinehart. The name became "W.H. Jackson Photograph and Publishing Co." in 1883-1884. In 1879, Jackson's company received a commission to produce views of the landscape and towns along rail routes. He also produced stereocards of these views. In 1897, Jackson sold his company and acquired partial interest in the Detroit Publishing Co. which published and distributed his photographs in chromolithiograph and postcard formats.
